Grandma’s Marathon Week 1

by Isis on January 30, 2012

I cannot believe that Grandma’s Marathon is 20 weeks away. Since that is a real statement and not a figment of my imagination, marathon training commenced today. I am excited, scared, nervous, cautious, intimidated, HUNGRY but most of all determined.

My goal is 4:30 but under 5 hrs would make me happy. I think it’s fair and not too over the top. I plan on training with the best of the best, Lee (of course!), at enduraLAB! The names you see in the picture on the left, are members of the LAB who will be joining us on this great adventure.I love traveling to run and it’s even better with great friends.

Jack will be joining me on this venture via the B.O.B. He is just the best little running partner anyone could ask for. He typically falls asleep while in the jogger within the first 10 min and at the LAB he plays and cheers mama on. He is pictured on the right reminding me to hydrate.

I’m beyond inspired to start this training process and will try to update more frequently to fill you in on the details. Happy training!

First Marathon (Relay) Post Baby Jack

by Isis on December 4, 2011

Since giving birth to Jack, I’ve ran. Shoot… I’ve even ran up to 8 miles just joining in on enduraLAB training. For whatever reason, I was nervous to the point of making myself sick today before running my 5-mile (yes only 5 mile) leg of the Dallas White Rock Marathon Relay.

It was the first for a lot of things that added up. First race back from having Jack 6 months ago. First race in which it was a down pour the whole time (Lee had that when he ran LA and I felt so bad for him). Most importantly, it was my first race without Lee by my side during the run.

Our relay team was the “Twitterati” consisting of @onegoodnerve @gimmethewooby @mcgaritydotme and Mr./Mrs. @runningcouple . My leg of the race started at mile 5 with a solid hand off from Tom (aka @gimmethewooby). I started off faster than I should have… something I always preach yet never execute. My shoes were soaked and with temps in the low 40’s, I could barely feel my toes and it only got worse. There were a lot more spectators than I thought considering the conditions and I was especially glad to see the lululemon athletica crew between mile 8-9.

Alas mile 10 came and I was ready to pass on the baton (really it was an ankle monitor looking thing). It was a little crazy at the relay exchange points with everyone trying to find their teammates. I was so glad to be done simply to take off my soaking wet shoes and tights. Overall, I felt good and could have kept going easily.

Lee did an awesome job on his leg, finishing 5.2 miles in about 38 minutes. We added to the adventure by bringing baby Jack and enlisted our friend Dan to join us. It was definitely an interesting experience that led to interest in the Texas Independence Relay happening in March.

My next goal is Grandma’s Marathon in June! Time to get training. BTW- I will be training at enduraLAB. If you live in the area, you should definitely consider stopping by the gym to see how we train. For those of you out of town, enduraLAB does offer training plans.

If you raced “The Rock,” how did it go for you? What challenges have you overcome for a race or during a race?

First 5K Post Pregnancy and Weekend Highlights

August 22, 2011

This weekend was great for many reasons. First of all, Lee took Friday off so that he could have a full day with Jack and I. We went to North Park Mall in Dallas for a little shopping. It’s been so long since I have been “my size.” Little did we know it was the [...]

A Change Will Do You Good

February 11, 2011

We’ve seen the shirt before… Eat. Train. Sleep. Repeat. We all love our routines and often find ourselves running the same route every day, following the same training plan, or competing in the same sport. Athletes just tend to stick with what we know, what we’ve done, when we’ve found a routine that works for [...]

LA Marathon Training Plan

February 2, 2011

First of all, we have to apologize for the lack of posts for the past couple of months. Not to make excuses, but between the Holidays, Disney Marathon Weekend, and trying to find the perfect baby gear, we’ve had a hard time finding some free time! We’re back on track though and plan on updating [...]
