Fancy title eh? Seriously though- we want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for purchasing the #CM10 twitter t! We raised $123 from CafePress and we are matching that plus a few dollars to donate $250 to local Chicago charity, Common Threads. For those of you reading this for the first time, Common Threads is a non-profit organization that teaches low income children how to cook healthy and affordable meals. You can read about how this idea came along on our initial #CM10 Twitter T post.

Feelin Hot Hot Hot! That should have been the theme song for the 2010 Tour Des Fleurs. We had our usual, half a banana and juice prior to the race, put on our Athletes HoneyMilk gear and headed out. Since we live in Fort Worth now, we had to get up a little earlier to make the 45 minute or so drive to Dallas. We parked about a quarter of a mile away from the start line, which provided a nice warm up. We cut it pretty close to the actual start of the race, so we literally walked up to the Luke’s Locker tent to meet up with Matthew McGarity and Patton, took a picture, and the blow horn signaled the start of our 20k. No time to think, no time to get nervous, and definitely no time for messing around!
Our goal was to run fast, but the weather was not going to have that. It was so hot that many runners walk/ran the course. Thankfully, the race had plenty of water stations for us to rehydrate and keep on trucking. At first, I was getting down on myself for the pace we were going but then around mile 6, I decided it just have fun. Every time we passed a photographer, we would strike a pose or do something silly. It made the race go by and we had much more fun than we would have if we were trying to get a good time. The funny thing is, we actually did finish in a good time considering the heat. We finished in about 2:18. My PR for a half is around 2:17. So with all the walking we did, we ran pretty well. The course was beautiful and the race volunteers were super friendly.
The after party is the best part of Tour Des Fleurs! Food vendors from all over Dallas come out and a live band is playing music constantly. My favorite food booth this year was Kozy Kitchen. They had a sweet potato hash that was out of this world. My next favorite would have to be the beer tent that was featuring Blue Moon. I was never much of a beer drinker until after I had my first beer after completing a half marathon. I may have some critics on this one, but believe you me, nothing tastes better than a cold beer after a run… at least to me.
Overall, it was another great race to put in the books. We will most likely make that a regular race on our yearly schedule.
