First Marathon (Relay) Post Baby Jack

by Isis on December 4, 2011

Since giving birth to Jack, I’ve ran. Shoot… I’ve even ran up to 8 miles just joining in on enduraLAB training. For whatever reason, I was nervous to the point of making myself sick today before running my 5-mile (yes only 5 mile) leg of the Dallas White Rock Marathon Relay.

It was the first for a lot of things that added up. First race back from having Jack 6 months ago. First race in which it was a down pour the whole time (Lee had that when he ran LA and I felt so bad for him). Most importantly, it was my first race without Lee by my side during the run.

Our relay team was the “Twitterati” consisting of @onegoodnerve @gimmethewooby @mcgaritydotme and Mr./Mrs. @runningcouple . My leg of the race started at mile 5 with a solid hand off from Tom (aka @gimmethewooby). I started off faster than I should have… something I always preach yet never execute. My shoes were soaked and with temps in the low 40’s, I could barely feel my toes and it only got worse. There were a lot more spectators than I thought considering the conditions and I was especially glad to see the lululemon athletica crew between mile 8-9.

Alas mile 10 came and I was ready to pass on the baton (really it was an ankle monitor looking thing). It was a little crazy at the relay exchange points with everyone trying to find their teammates. I was so glad to be done simply to take off my soaking wet shoes and tights. Overall, I felt good and could have kept going easily.

Lee did an awesome job on his leg, finishing 5.2 miles in about 38 minutes. We added to the adventure by bringing baby Jack and enlisted our friend Dan to join us. It was definitely an interesting experience that led to interest in the Texas Independence Relay happening in March.

My next goal is Grandma’s Marathon in June! Time to get training. BTW- I will be training at enduraLAB. If you live in the area, you should definitely consider stopping by the gym to see how we train. For those of you out of town, enduraLAB does offer training plans.

If you raced “The Rock,” how did it go for you? What challenges have you overcome for a race or during a race?

We had heard great things about the Warrior Dash and were super exited it was coming to Texas. Guess a lot of people felt that way because it was sold out in no time. We were so bummed we missed the mark and contacted Red Frog Events to see if there were any spots open. [...]

Race Recap: Dallas Rock n Roll Half Marathon

First of all, the fact that Isis PR’d has nothing to do with our opinion of the Inaugural Dallas Rock n Roll Half Marathon. That said…this race rocked! Let’s start with the expo. While we heard that this expo was going to be smaller than White Rock, we thought it had a lot more vendors. [...]

Our first half marathon of 2010! With the San Antonio Rock n Roll and the Dallas White Rock half marathons behind us, we decided to take it easy in January and save our bodies for Austin…and we are glad we did! While Austin’s route was very hilly, it didn’t slow Isis down as she PR’d. [...]

Today was an especially cold day in Dallas, 20 degrees to be exact. There was literally ice all over our parking garage when we left our apartment this morning. With that being said, we were SO glad that our race was inside of Fountain Place. The race was a hit right from the start! When [...]
