Nesting

by Isis on May 22, 2011

Let me start by saying poor, sweet, loving, caring, amazing husband of mine. Today has been one heck of a day. It all started around 9:30am (after a much needed sleeping in) with a trip to Central Market for breakfast and shopping. After getting groceries for the week, we came home to start the mass organization of our house… or at least complete a fraction of it. What most do not know is that we recently moved from an apartment to a house and our last day to get out of the apartment was yesterday…so we had the remainder of goodies stored there now all over our new house plus the addition of all of Jack’s new stuff.

Lee started by hanging the curtains in the baby’s room and then putting down the rug we bought.

Luckily, my mom lives near and was able to come over to help me finish putting together the nursery while Lee tended to the heavier/manly duties. While going through bags and boxes of stuff, mom and I realized we needed to make a quick trip to target for some baskets and hanging storage for the closet. So we did that while Lee kept on trucking and my step dad cooked dinner.

After dinner mom and John left and even with running around all day and the additional help, our house is still a mess! I sincerely feel bad for Lee having to listen to my complaints and he isn’t allowed one single second to sit down. There is just so much to do and we have definitely procrastinated as much as we can. Lee’s family might be coming next weekend and Jack will be here in at least 2 weeks!

As for my physical nature, my swollen ankles feel like they are shattered, so Lee told me that I needed to put my feet up. So that’s where I am now… feet up with ice on the bed while he is organizing our closet, folding clothes, and putting things away. I really can’t stand not having my full physical strength. It’s where I pull my worth. I feel worthless because I can’t help out like a normal person and so I push myself further than I should.

Enough negative. One of the highlights of this evening was talking with my dad via Skype for a little bit. He is currently overseas and will be there until about October/November time frame. I showed him how huge I was (like it was a trophy). He asked how in the world that happened- Dad, Lee and I have no idea…we sleep in different rooms J. We talked a little bit about life and then about baby coming very soon. His one big tip for the evening was to make sure to pack make up in my overnight bag because us women look like we have been through a UFC fight after giving birth. HA! I love my dad.

Well, that’s it for me this evening. Tomorrow we have another weekly doctors visit. Let the count down continue.

Feel the Heat, Pilates and Baptiste Yoga Style

by Isis on February 17, 2011

Ever since my last half marathon at Disney, I have slowed my running way down. It really hit me during a run with our good friends that I could barely finish a 4-mile run. I literally ran 2 miles and had to walk 2 to get home. I knew that the running would eventually begin to die down and that I’d have to trade in my running shoes for less strenuous activities.  I was worried that nothing would give me quite the fix that running did.

That was until I had an amazing session of  Pilates. Lee and I take Pilates from Zoe Stein Pierce, the godmother of Pilates here in Fort Worth.  She is extremely knowledgeable about her craft and anatomy. Zoe understands my pregnant body as she has experienced childbirth and knows what I need to strengthen and work on. We used a yoga ball, the reformer and a little bit of gyrotonics. I felt leaner, taller and just plain better after leaving her studio.  Her studio is Pilates at Dancescape and you should definitely check her out if you are local or check our Pilates in your area.

Then there was my intense session of Baptiste Yoga today at Indigo Yoga. We’ve been hearing about how amazing the newest yoga instructor Ashley Baker was and I was very excited to try her class. All Baptiste classes are heated and today there was about 81% humidity in the room. Some don’t like that but I love it because it gets your warm right away. Ashley has a really cool teaching style as she use to be a Les Mills national instructor and presenter. My heart was beating and sweat covered every inch of my body. With her guidance I was in tune with my body and opened in ways I hadn’t opened since pre pregnancy…. Ugh it was just so great.

So while I can’t run the distance I used to run, I can still get my fix and feel just as amazing doing other forms of exercise. All hope is not lost. Soon I’ll be back on the trail with my love and a little one.

Last Half Marathon for This Preggo

January 8, 2011

“Wake up babe, it’s time,” Lee says to me at 3am. Luckily I am a morning person and haven’t had morning sickness (knock on wood). Five minutes later I’m dressed and slabbing some peanut butter on a mini blueberry bagel. I was feeling good and ready to tackle the 13.1 that lay ahead of us. [...]

Confessions of a Pregnant Runner

November 23, 2010

When someone gets pregnant, they usually think it’s okay to eat for two and most people expect the same. Well, its NOT true! Restorative Yoga for Runners and Pregnant Women

November 11, 2010

Before getting pregnant, I had very little patience for slower paced workouts. I was a runner and I wanted to get somewhere…not just sit in poses. Classes such as restorative yoga were like Chinese water torture and I dreaded going to them. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m looking for a nearby area to nap almost [...]
