This whole running adventure for me started after Lee ran the Chicago Marathon. Being a part of that special event was inspiring and motivating. It was as if I had runners high and I didn’t even run!
I decided to give the running thing a try and signed up for the Jingle Bell run in Fort Worth. I was so excited to get to run with Lee and I thought it would be a good start to my marathon training. Around mile 1.5 or so, I completely broke down…. After some choice words, I decided I did not want to pursue my marathon dreams.
Luckily, I have a wonderful husband who has a ton of patience and didn’t push me to continue on. About 2 years later, I started running on a treadmill at the gym at my own pace. It started with 2 miles, then 3, then 4 and I felt the urge to run again. All the while, Lee supported but never forced me to sign up for anything. Earlier this year we ran a few 5K’s and then a 10K with Lee coaching me along the way.
A couple of weeks ago we ran our first ½ marathon. I never ever thought I could run further than 1.5 miles after that first run. Now, I’m just building up slowly with no pressure. I am extremely lucky to have the most amazing coach.
