Jack’s First Thanksgiving

by Isis on November 27, 2011

We just returned from a fun filled and family packed Thanksgiving in Illinois. This marked the second big airplane trip for Jack and he handled it very well. We were really blessed with such a well behaved child. Thanksgiving trip highlights:

1. I am thankful that we get to see so much of Lee’s family when we go home to Johnsonville.
2. Why do random people think it’s okay to touch my baby at the airport? NOT OKAY!
3. I love waking up at the Hargraves to the Today Show, a cup of coffee and looking at catalogs with Lee’s mom.
4. Breast feeding during the holidays is awesome. I get to eat a little extra and it’s acceptable.
5. Jack will have extreme diaper blowouts at the worst possible times. ie: on the plane ride home, Jack had an explosion that went all the way up his back and we had to do a complete wardrobe change.
6. I am extremely proud of Jack and so happy to be his mommy.
7. My sister-in-law, Jo Ann, makes the best cake balls in the world.
8. My other sister-in-law, Lindsay, had her house decorated for Christmas already and it was gorgeous.
9. Lee’s family is terrible about keeping Christmas gifts a secret and it’s actually quite funny.
10. Lee had his first Black Friday experience at Wal-mart whilst I stayed home with Jack and had a heart to heart with Lee’s dad <3.

Those are just a few of the many highlights from the trip. To see pictures from the trip, click here.

Also, because rarely am I right and Lee is wrong, I have to share this story. We were singing Frosty the Snowman to Jack on the flight home. Lee sang, “There must have been some magic in that old TOP hat they found.” I laughed a little and told him that it was a SILK hat that they found. He didn’t believe me, so we made a bet. Sure enough, I was right and he has to change all of Jack’s diapers tomorrow while we are home at the same time. Winning is fun.

About 3 weeks until Christmas! Our first tree is ordered and on it’s way!

Jack’s First Day of School

by Isis on August 24, 2011

It’s been a busy day for Jack. This morning Jack and I hit the Trinity Trails with daddy (Coach of enduraLAB) for a nice little 5k run. Then we headed to Pilates at Dancescape for a little mat Pilates. Then it was time for his first day of school!

Jack with his TCU parking pass ready to go to school!

You may be asking yourself…”isn’t Jack only 11weeks old.” You are correct! I enrolled Jack in an Early Childhood Music class at TCU. Doing this class with Jack is near and dear to my heart as I studied music from 5th grade all the way through college (minored in music). Another question you might benasking is…”isn’t Jack too young to be learning music?” You would be incorrect and here is why:

Generally, we have learned that children from birth to approximately age six do not express music like adults. Early childhood, a period of rapid change and development, is the most critical period in a child’s musical growth and has been identified in the literature as the “music babble” stage (Moog, 1976; Gordon, 1988) or primary music development (Levinowitz and Guilmartin, 1989, 1992, 1996). Even the youngest infant is wired to receive music and discriminate among differences in frequency, melody, and stimuli (Bridger, 1961; Trehub et al, 1990; Standley and Madsen, 1990; Zentner and Kagan, 1996). (Sourced from MusicTogether.com)

Our first class was so much fun! We sang, we danced and then he fell asleep.

Jack was having so much fun, he passed out right before class ended.

I have a feeling Jack is going to sleep very well tonight!

Last Half Marathon for This Preggo

January 8, 2011

“Wake up babe, it’s time,” Lee says to me at 3am. Luckily I am a morning person and haven’t had morning sickness (knock on wood). Five minutes later I’m dressed and slabbing some peanut butter on a mini blueberry bagel. I was feeling good and ready to tackle the 13.1 that lay ahead of us. [...]
