Personal Background

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Being a military brat, I have traveled the world and lived in some awesome places. I love to sing, dance, scrapbook, take pictures, bake cupcakes, yadda yadda. I really love to watch basketball, especially the Spurs. My laugh can generally be heard from miles away. My best friend in the whole world is Mr. Lee Hargrave.  You can always check out what I am doing on Twitter at @isishargrave.

Running Background

I am the kind of person that has to work out or I feel awful. I have always been an active person but never thought of myself as a runner. I participated in track for like 2 weeks in 8th grade… my event was shot put. Since then, I have run in about seven 5k’s, 2 10K’s, and 5 ½ marathons. We are currently training for the Chicago marathon on 10-10-10! I have come to enjoy running and can even say I really hit my stride at mile 8….ugh! I don’t take myself seriously as a runner, but it sure is fun to cross the finish line.

In a nutshell…. lover of slapstick comedy, music aficionado, wannabe pro golfer, and a school junkie.  That’s right, I love school.  I think if I could be anything it would be a professional student.  This has landed me with a couple of degrees in engineering, an MBA, and a future degree in Supply Chain Management.  When I am not geeking out, I enjoy pretending I am a rock star with Isis in Guitar Hero: World Tour.  Feel free to check me out on Twitter at @hargrave.

Running Background

While I did a little running in middle school and high school, my real love for running began in 2006.  I have heard a lot of great stories about how people got started in running…for me it was a bet.  In October 2006, I found myself at the starting line of the Chicago Marathon.  It was during my marathon training that I became addicted to running.  It has always been a way for me to get out and relax.  Plus, I love to eat!  I was extremely excited when Isis decided she wanted to run as well.  It was then that I had to go through my second training…running a race with my wife.  I think I still have a few lessons to learn in that subject.

Just came across the blog and I love it already. I especially like the comment about training to run with a spouse. I completely agree! Two years later, me and the buddy are still trying to figure it out. But I admit, it’s tougher on him (I think). I’m always telling him, “Don’t run ahead of me, you have longer legs and you make me feel like I suck!” ha! Good luck with Chicago! I’ve got a few friends headed that way this year and it might be on our running/married list for next year.

Hi! Love your blog! I cover running in the DFW area for the Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/running-179-in-dallas/sara-johnson) and would like to talk with you for an article on running during pregnancy. Interested in talking with you no matter how much or how little you are running. I ran up until delivery day with my first and with my second had complications that meant I couldn’t run at all :) You can email me at realityrunning@gmail.com. Thanks!
