Everyone has been talking about it lately…what are we going to do for a Chicago Marathon Tweetup? While we thought about hosting an event, we thought it would be tough to get everyone on Twitter together in one place at one time. Instead we came up with an idea to turn the whole weekend into an all-inclusive tweetup. Tweetups are about connecting with others on Twitter…the problem is you never know who is a fellow Tweep or your phone can’t handle your overwhelming Twitter stream. We have designed a line of shirts with a custom Chicago Marathon Twitter logo on the front and a large “@” symbol on the back. Our design was based on the Chicago flag and incorporates the date as well as that cute little Twitter bird.
The idea is for each individual to custom design the back of their shirt with their Twitter handle and whatever else they care to add. You can find the shirts at The Running Couple’s Cafe Press Store. During the marathon weekend, wear this shirt to easily identify yourself and fellow tweeps…now all you have to do is connect!
And now for the best part! When we started thinking about the Chicago Marathon, we knew that we wanted to create something that would benefit the the great host city. Therefore, all profits from these Twitter shirts will benefit Common Threads. Common Threads is a Chicago charity whose mission is to educate children on the importance of nutrition and physical well-being, and to foster an appreciation of cultural diversity through cooking. We love this charity, as it focuses on helping children fuel their bodies with the right stuff in the Windy City. We think that it is awesome that they are inspiring children and teaching them how to cook healthy meals…we could probably use a few lessons. Plus, they play the Twitter game too! Check them out at @Common__Threads.
We are just starting to work with some expo vendors to see if they might have some “special” giveaways for anyone wearing our shirt. We will keep you posted with any updates as well as our sales numbers. Let us know what you think!
