I love CrossFit. There I said it. One of the reasons that I have this love affair with a strength and conditioning program is the fact that it’s scalable. That’s right, anyone can do it. I know that CrossFit has an extreme exterior, but at the heart is a great community that is focused on one thing….getting fit.
Last weekend we made the 12-hour drive to Illinois to visit the family for a couple of days. It was during our visit that we learned how far CrossFit is reaching. Not only was I shocked that a CrossFit-type box had opened up near my small hometown, but that my mom and uncle were members! It was great to talk to them about CrossFit…what they liked best and what they dreaded.
The second day of our visit, Isis and I were ready for a workout. That’s just the way we feel after stuffing ourselves with delicious (and rich) home-cooked meals for 24 hours. My nephews wanted to hang out with their Uncle Lee and Aunt Isis and decided to come along and do the workout with us. Luckily, the elementary school right down the street had just put in a new playground…perfect spot for a CrossFit workout!
We ended up working on our pullups and then got into a 12-minute AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) of 10 pushups, 15 situps, and 20-meters of lunges. This was just the warmup for the main event…TAG!!! A workout that we will definitely have to do more of. Why not have a little fun with intervals?
We had so much fun with our nephews and can’t wait for them to visit us in Texas. Check out our videos of the experience below.
